Let Your Beauty Shine

How important is having the right makeup colors and techniques?

No amount of plastic surgery, or money spent on the most expensive designer makeup, clothes, or hairstyle, will compensate for wearing the wrong colors, applications or styles.

It is very important to have the right hair style and makeup to compliment your face shape and Let Your Beauty Shine.

  • Know and understand your seasonal colors.
  • Know your face shape.
  • Have the right hair style.
  • Use corrective makeup application.

First: Your skin, hair, and eye color, will help you to determine, if your best colors are blue based or yellow based (i.e. cool or warm).

Blue Undertones - people with blue undertones are classified as "Cools" and have a cool look to their skin, hair and eyes.

Yellow Undertones - people with yellow undertones in their skin, hair and eyes are classified as "Warms"

Wearing the correct colors and shades, of makeup and clothing, can balance and enhance your entire look. It will make you look good, and feel better about yourself no matter what your size, shape, or age.

You need to know and understand The Three Dimensions of Color:

Every color has three dimensions: Hue, Intensity, and Value.

Hue: Another word for color: i.e. Red, Yellow, and Blue etc.

Value: The range between the lightness and darkness of a color.

Intensity: Is the purity and strength of a color. For example: a bright red or dull red.

For your makeup and wardrobe, you need to find the hue, intensity, and value of your personal coloring. Discovering these elements it will make it easy for you to make the right choices for shades, to compliment and enhance your skin coloring.

Second: Face shape: There are nine categories of face shapes.

Oval, Rectangular, Oblong, Diamond, Round, Square, Triangular/Pear, Heart and Inverted Triangle

To determine your face shape, pull back your hair so that you can see the silhouette of your face. Sometimes the face shape is a blend of two. Choose the shape that is the closest to one of the defined categories.

Third: Hair style to compliment the face shape:

Oval Face Shape

This is the easiest face shape to work with; it is perfectly balanced in the width and the length. Any hair style will compliment this face shape; go for your favorite, you can wear almost any style with that face.

Oblong or Rectangular Face Shape

Longer than it is wide, with the forehead, cheekbones and the jaw line the same width. Our goal with this face shape is to make it appear shorter and broader. Hair styles look best with a fuller cut around the face that tapers in at the nape of the neck, to give the illusion of a fuller face. A natural style with a side part is suitable for this shape, but the sides should be swept back of the face. The ideal hair length is at the neckline with volume and width.

Square Face Shape

The square shape appears to be as broad as it is long, so our goal is to soften the jaw line and forehead. Hair styles should look soft and natural with asymmetric lines in a soft light curvy fringe with height on top of the head to help counteract the squareness of the face. Wispy hair around the edges gives the illusion of a longer face.

Round Face Shape

A rounded face shape has a wide full chin, short and full appearance with the cheekbones being the widest part of the face. Our goal is to lengthen this face shape to give it a thinner look. Hair should have height and be swept back at the sides to avoid fullness at the ears. Avoid straight heavy fringes. While a center part in the hair is recommended, the hair should be kept at mid to long lengths with no bulk.

Diamond Face Shape

Diamond shaped faces are wider at the cheekbones and tapered to the forehead and chin. This face shape is vertically well balanced. With hairstyles, our goal is to make the cheek line thinner with minimal width at the eye line, and add width to the narrow forehead and chin. Hair should have a soft and wavy style to divert attention from the sharpness of the face shape. The hairstyle can be short or long, but not extreme. The hair should have volume at the jaw line with a wavy style to soften the look.

Inverted Triangle or Heart shape

The main characteristics of this face shape are a tapered chin and fuller forehead. Our goal is to widen the chin line with the hairstyle. Style your hair shorter with a center part to achieve the look of longer line. Hair should be swept back at the sides, in a soft and natural style.

Triangular shape

A wide, square chin and a narrow forehead define the triangular shaped face. Our goal is to minimize the jaw line, add fullness to forehead, and create height with the hairstyle. The hair should cover part of the ears, and have side parts with a soft light fringe giving fullness to the forehead.

Fourth: Corrective makeup:

Your blush color can correct the shape of your face subtly, by creating the illusion of having an oval shape and a flawless bone structure. The secret is in where you place your colors; highlighting your best features and minimizing less desirable ones.

Ideally, your cheek color should start at a point no lower than the bottom of the nose, and not beyond the center of the face. If you place it too close to the eye, it can make your eyes look puffy. Blush color should be brushed in a slight angle upward toward the top of the ears and completely blended. Never let color extend to the hairline. You want to look radiant and natural, not overdone.

Now that you mastered the basic rules, let's artistically create the look that you desire.

Mastering the 3 steps of custom makeup:

  • Accenting with light shades
  • Lining with a complimenting shade
  • Defining with deep shades

The most important aspects of makeup are understanding and mastering the theory of color.

  • LIGHT tones advance bringing features forward without making them bigger.
  • DARK tones recede bringing features in and minimizing to make them smaller.

So let's apply these techniques to maximize the beauty of your face.

If you have a long, narrow face:

For more width, keep the color low; no higher than the lower ledge of cheekbone, and keep the angle horizontal, level with the mid-point of the ear. Apply color only on the outer third of the cheeks; cheek color in the middle of the face will emphasize length.

If you have a round, wide, or square face:

For more length, keep the color in the middle of your face, without getting too close to the nose. Cheek color on the outer third of your cheeks will only emphasize roundness.

Creating high cheek bones:

Brush a natural beige contour color lightly, just under cheekbone, toward the temples blending it lightly, to create a "hollow" in the cheek area. Then, add your favorite cheek color on the edge of the cheekbone and angling it towards hairline.

Blending the colors carefully so you don't see where you have started or finished. Together, they will accentuate the height of the cheekbone. For beautiful highlights, add a dot of white eye shadow powder right on top of the cheekbone, above your blush. Place it right where light normally hits the bone the strongest, to highlight the arch

Eliminating a double chin:

Apply a natural beige color under the chin with your brush at least one shade deeper, once or twice, to eliminate the double chin. This will minimize the look of having the double chin; make sure to blend it thoroughly.

Every woman must have products:

  • Foundation: a color closest to your natural coloring.
  • Concealer: to camouflage any unwanted lines and dark circles.
  • Face powder: in a natural shade.
  • Blush color: to enhance your beauty.
  • Eye shadows: (3-5) to create superior eyes.
  • Eyeliner: a natural shade that compliments your eyes.
  • Mascara: black or brown.
  • Eyebrow: pencil or powder.
  • Lipsticks: (2-3) colors
  • Lip gloss
  • Latex sponge: for applying your foundation
  • Make-up brushes: the best set of quality brushes you can afford.
