Business Casual (part one)

Beauty Solutions by Ferial Youakim AICI

Many of us are judged for employment based on our appearance. This is not fair; we prefer to be hired, or to get promoted, because of our skills and abilities, not because of our dress and grooming. Whether you like it or not, we are all judged on our appearance. I know and you know that this is not fair, so let’s face it, our appearance is as vital as our degree, if not even more important.

The first word in business casual is “business” and business means professional. Business casual attire does not mean sloppy, business casual should be appropriate to conduct business in an appropriate manner, to portray a polished credible image. So before anyone or any business decides to go with casual dress attire they must implement a “Casual Dress Policy” to clarify what will be acceptable and what is not.

  • Business Wear
  • Business Casual
  • Casual Wear

Most of us probably do need the three levels in the wardrobe; dressing up appropriately depending on your position and your duties that day. Keep in mind that business wear is still the best choice especially when meeting clients, giving presentations, conducting business deals or anytime you are representing your company.

Here are some reminders to get you back on track into the swing of traditional business attire:

At the moment, if you are wearing sports jackets, jeans, jeans jackets, zip-front sweatshirts see-through tops, T-shirts, midriff-baring tops, overalls, bike shorts, mini skirts, sneakers and sandals, you need to reassess your wardrobe. The attitudes of others toward you are frequently shaped by the way we dress. Business casual must always include the best quality you can afford, hose or socks, footwear in clean, good condition, minimal accessories, clean and styled hair, and clean and shaved face or makeup for women. With all this in mind, let's take a look at the three levels of business casual.

Tell every one about your dream they will believe you but best of all you will start believing yourself. The more you talk about it, the more easily your dreams become a reality. The more you talk about your dreams the closer you are to reaching them.

Business Wear

Business Wear is preferred for businesses like law, banking, finance, accounting, and high-level corporate. The message you are conveying is authority, conservative, and proficiency. At the most formal level, very close to traditional, is business attire. At this level, a jacket must be worn; this is the preferred style of business casual. Clothing exudes a tailored classic style; in good quality, including exceptional structure and fit. Business Wear shows a polished professional and reliable Image.

Business Casual

Business casual is good for businesses like teaching, real estate, sales, medicine, and social work. Business Casual attire conveys expertise in more relaxing atmosphere. The message you are conveying is that the employee is trustworthy, approachable, and knowledgeable. Business Casual is a bit more tailored and upscale than Casual wear. The key element of this level is layering, as soon as you add the third piece you are complementing your style with a polished touch of professionalism. The third piece could be a jacket, vest, sweater, or even a tie or scarf.

Casual Wear

Casual Wear is a more suitable style for businesses like advertising, art, fashion, writing, entertainment, decorating. The message you are conveying is creative, unique, and contemporary. Casual wear is best when you have no customer contact, you are taking part in informal activities, you are with clients at a sporting event, or you are at an off-site meeting. Casual wear consists of only two wardrobe pieces, like shirt and pants, top and skirt, jackets are not necessary worn with this style.

Business Casual by Degree

Any thing you wear should be clean and pressed no sign of wear and tear or any threads dangling. No matter what the dress code is, you need to be appropriate in the way you dress and act. Always remember to create according to your own tastes and have good judgment for your business environment. Khaki pants, long sleeve shirts, in a solid color are safe for both men and women. Polo shirts are an appropriate choice, if you know the attire and the location will be quite casual, outdoors or in a very hot/tropical location. Investing in the best quality leather that you can afford is essential. Your belt and shoes should compliment each other; no sporty shoes especially around the reception area.

To master your professional polished image and to get ahead in life you need to excel in all areas that value your total image, and you certainly need to be ahead of every one else to climb the corporate ladder. I went thorough a sufficient amount of detail above to help you find your professional image, but do consult with us, if you feel unsure or need some help at any point after all, we are here for you.
